One of the joys of the embellisher machine is the way that it forms tucks and pleats. All you do is to fold the surface, run the needles down the fold and voila! - a tuck is formed. In a fine fabric, these tucks can be massed; in a heavier fabric, they can be used as channels to hold tapes, painted straws or wrapped pipe cleaners as shown below. A pleater is a very simple device for forming pleats in fabric and these can be used in lots of ways with the embellisher machine. The making of a flat wire frame and many ways of wrapping it are discussed in the book, together with ideas for the use of the resulting embellished fabric. Small looms can be used to weave embellished fabrics and further detail can then be added. The piece on the right was first woven and then tucked with the embellisher. In the book shown below, embellished strips have been woven on to a frame of plastic mesh, discovered in a gardening store. This is painted and woven and fish beads have been added. ![]() |
