This section of the book examines the materials that are suitable for use with the embellisher machine. It also covers hand felting needles, which are an exciting option for those who don't have the machine. The section continues with ideas for texturing and applying a variety of fibres and fabrics, including natural fibres, sheers, patterned fabrics and bonded appliqué.

Perhaps the most exciting option is the combination of these embellishing processes with stitch. Ideas are given for free machining, couching and hand stitching. Commercial needle-punched felt is a delight to work with and leads to the use of pre-felts, again combined with stitch.

Finished pieces are shown with some innovative twists. The book cover below is made from massed couched threads which were photocopied to make a paper book cover before being cut up and used as the book fastening.
